One of the biggest decisions to make during home renovations is picking the perfect countertop! Countertops are a huge focal point in a kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room. It’s one of the most used surfaces and one of the biggest pieces in the space, so you’ll want to make sure you’re choosing wisely. Luckily, we have some tips to help you pick the best stone for your space!
Tip #1
Before you start your search, take a look at your space and plan out what you want it to look like. Do you have a large island with different coloured cabinets than the rest of the kitchen? Is your space long and narrow or more open? Is there a lot of natural light? Do you have lots of colour in your space, or are you keeping it neutral? Answering questions like this will help you determine the direction you’re going with the design and help you narrow down the style of slab you’re looking for. Tip #2
After you’ve narrowed down style, consider your lifestyle. Do you cook or bake a lot? Do a lot of people live in your home? Do you have kids? Do you use a lot of hot tools in the bathroom or kitchen? Do you need something that’s easy to clean and maintain? What’s your budget? These are all things to consider before you choose whether you’d like granite, quartz, or marble. Some stones like marble are more difficult to care for and can be harder to maintain than other stones but are great for bakers due to their naturally cold surface. Other stones like granite and quartz tend to be easier to care for but still have their own benefits and drawbacks. Quartz will give you a wide variety of styles to choose from and usually comes at a lower price tag while being easy to care for and extremely durable! Granite will give you a lot of the same qualities, however, it is more heat resistant than quartz and requires more maintenance such as periodic sealing. Once you consider day-to-day things like these, you should be able to decide what stone is going to fit your lifestyle the best.
